Beginner players are new to tennis and have not developed a consistent serve.
Beginner teams play local matches only and do not have an opportunity to advance to State, Sectional and National JTT championships. Rising Star (also know as Intermediate) players are fairly consistent when hitting medium paced shots but are not comfortable with all strokes and lack execution when trying for directional control, depth and power.
Rising Star teams play local matches only and do not have an opportunity to advance to State, Sectional and National JTT championships. |

Challenger players have achieved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, exhibit more aggressive net play, have improved court coverage and are developing teamwork in doubles.
Qualified Challenger teams are eligible for advancement to State, Sectional, and National USTA JTT championships. |

For the 2017 Championship year, advanced player status will be determined based on NTRP rather than Sectional ranking for the 12s, 14s and 18s. Advanced players are players with an NTRP of 3.5 of higher at the time of league registration. U10 Advanced players will be based on the 1-100 Sectional Standing List for 10s as of July 31st 2016.
Qualified Advanced teams are eligible for advancement to State, Sectional, and National USTA JTT championships. |
Determining Your Level
For players with previous match experience, we may recommend a level of play based on a USTA junior ratings pilot program utilizing the USTA’s National Ratings Tennis Program. Players with no pre-season rating will have the opportunity to self-rate during TennisLink registration. For more information, please see GJTT Junior Ratings.
